Animating Jellyfish through Observational Models of Motion
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a framework for animating the major features of jellyfish motion. Specifically, we concentrate on simulating the contracting and expanding umbrella of a fully grown jellyfish. The outer surface of the umbrella is treated as an elastic body, simulated numerically with a spring-mass system. The thrust generated by umbrellar contraction is calculated with approximated models and based on observed data that describes the volume and aperture diameter of the umbrella. The force of water pressure that acts on the umbrellar surface is based on thrust force and the local orientation of the surface. The final surface is rendered using scan-conversion methods via conventional graphics acceleration hardware.

Animating Scanned Human Models
In this paper, we present a novel technique for animating the human model from whole body scanned data. In our method, the human model is represented with a layered model, its skeleton is generated automatically, and a simplified surface skin mapped to the underlying skeleton. We present methods for constructing and animating our models without manual intervention, a vertex blending technique i...
متن کاملAutomatically Animating Jellyfish by Exploiting Radial Symmetry
As the field of computer graphics evolves, more diverse types of scenes are being rendered. Production-level works such as “Finding Nemo” [1] and “Shark Tale” [2] have sparked interest in oceanic settings. Although a fair amount of work exists regarding the animation of fish and other aquatic vertebrates, no notable papers have been published on invertebrate sea life. This paper proposes an ani...
متن کاملGrammatical Evolution for Gait Retargeting
Artists and scientists require tools to construct physics-based animal models. However, animating these models requires motion data for realistic movement. Motion data may either be measured from real-life animals-in-motion or generated using an optimisation approach. We propose a solution for retargeting gait data from one animal to another. The retargeted gait cycles are generated using a Gra...
متن کاملAnimating Faces Using Appearance Models
Here we present an overview of a system we are developing for animating faces using appearance models. To facilitate more widespread use of animated characters, we are interested in developing techniques that: 1) require only easy to use and inexpensive data capture equipment, 2) are threedimensional allowing virtual characters to be animated, 3) allow a range of face models, from near-photorea...
متن کاملAnimating Non-Human Characters Using Human Motion
This paper presents research in enhancing character animation using motion capture data and retargeting motion from one character model to another. Our particular interest lies in animating non-human characters and inanimate objects. The main goal of the project is to use lattice deformations to animate an object and smooth out the kinks in the animation at the bending of the joints. CR Categor...
